About the potter:
Echizen Bunzan is a bonsai pot artist who has been creating works in Fukui, Japan for many years. His styles range from unglazed pots with the rich texture of natural clay to beautifully colored pieces with complex, layered glazes. Having run a gardening shop for many years, his pots have an uncanny harmony with plants and are also well-suited for cultivation. Now retired from running his shop, he devotes himself to making the pots he truly wants to create. Every piece is hand-built, one by one, with great care.

Highlights
For the past several years, Echizen Bunzan has been dedicated to creating painted bonsai pots with a particular focus on scenic designs. Each piece is based on a theme—landscapes inspired by his impressions of the Japanese countryside. He also visits historic post towns in Japan, painting memorable scenes onto his pots.
Unlike the “oriental landscapes” often seen on Japanese or Chinese painted pots—vague scenes with no specific location—his artwork depicts real, identifiable places. He also avoids filling every space with paint, believing that leaving just the right amount of open space creates harmony with the tree that will be planted.

This pot appears to portray an old Japanese home nestled at the foot of a mountain. On the back, a rustic barn can be seen, with a curious cow peeking out from within.

Thank you for viewing our pot.
